ABOUT DR. SWAIM
Dr. O. Wilburn Swaim is a native North Carolinian, where he now resides. He was saved as a young lad in Calvary Baptist Church, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and immediately became a student of the Word of God. Among his most influential teachers were the late Drs. W. Herbert Brown, and Elmer Piper, two of his childhood pastors. Others included, first of all, his late godly mother, who, beside her own testimony, equipped him with a Scofield Reference Bible, and fed him a spiritual diet of radio preachers. Prominent among them were the late Drs. Oliver B. Green, M. R. DeHaan and Charles Fuller.
Following high school, he enlisted in the U. S. Army, and trained as a helicopter mechanic. In November of 1959, he married Marnie Faye Jordan, his wife now of over 50 years. After six years of military service, he answered the call to preach, and enrolled in Piedmont Bible (now, Baptist) College, in his hometown of Winston-Salem. In the early part of 1971, he entered his first pastorate, graduating from college in the Spring with a Th.B degree. He pastored churches in North Carolina and Virginia until 1998, and being also involved in additional areas of service, including music, radio, print, and addiction recovery ministries. During this time frame, he earned his Master and Doctor Degrees, from the Andersonville Baptist (now, Theological) Seminary, in Camilla, Georgia.
Though not now pastoring a church, due to some physical restrictions, he is an an active member of the Green Valley Baptist Church, Walkertown, North Carolina, where Brother Wayne Dunn is the fine Pastor. Pastor Wayne often calls upon Dr. Swaim to preach, and fill the pulpit in his absence, as well as affording him the opportunity to substitute teach the adult Sunday school class.
Over five years ago, Dr. Swaim was diagnosed with a cancer on one vocal chord. Through much prayer, and appropriate medical procedures, he is now cancer free. To God be the glory, with many thanks also to the VA Hospital in Durham, North Carolina, for their great work.
Dr. Swaim is now available for ministry, as pulpit supply and special meetings, in your local church. He invites pastors to call on him if he can be of assistance in these areas of ministry.
Thank you, and may our Lord Jesus make this web site ministry a blessing to you,
Dr. O. Wilburn Swaim Th.D
